Premise

Ten years after the 2002 International Scientific Symposium on the Measurement of Food Deprivation and Undernutrition, the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations is organizing an international scientific symposium to:

  • examine emerging trends in measuring food and nutrition security information; and
  • link evidence based information more closely to decision-making processes.

Criteria for Submitting Abstracts

Topics

Abstracts should be related to one of the following topics:

  • Measuring and analyzing food and nutrition security to improve the availability and quality of information for decision making - advances made since the 2002 International Scientific Symposium.

  • Impact evaluation - understanding what works in humanitarian and development contexts to improve food and nutrition insecurity, for informing policies and programmes.

  • Food and nutrition security information: from evidence to policy impact.

Abstract Format

1. Limit of 500 words, excluding the title and authors.

2. Written in English.

3. Adhere to the following standard structure

  • Title (up to 50 words), primary author and co-authors, institutional affiliations
  • Introduction
  • Purpose of the work
  • Methods
  • Policy implications
  • Conclusions

4. Submitted abstracts should be relevant to one or more of the topics of the symposium. They should preferably show implications of the work for policy and decision making.

5. They should focus on new or updated work, and not be a presentation of previously published research.

6. Submit to ISS-2012@fao.org by 16 September 2011

Note: Accepted abstracts will be published in the website www.foodsec.org and in a book of symposium proceedings.
